Asbestos Management for Primark
Crossways Environmental Services has worked with Primark, part of the
Associated British Foods group, since 2004.
We have conducted asbestos surveys at Primark stores throughout the UK and at
Penneys stores throughout Ireland and have assisted in the preparation their
asbestos management plan and with Project Management. To date, 162 stores /
branches have been surveyed across the UK and Eire.
Many of these surveys were conducted as part of the “due
diligence” exercise during the acquisitions.
The asbestos registers produced as a result of the surveys are stored
securely in both electronically and in hard copy format at Crossways’
offices. The reports are also available within Primark and to Primark’s
authorised contractors via Primark’s “DAD” computerised
system.
Survey activity within Primark stores
Primark has undergone an aggressive expansion programme which included the
takeover of a number of former Allders and Littlewoods stores occupying prime
high street locations throughout the United Kingdom. Many of these stores had
been built or themselves refurbished at a time when the use of Asbestos
Containing Materials was commonplace in the building industry. It was
critical to Primark’s programme to identify where such materials were
present in order that they should be safely and properly removed.
During 2005/2006, Crossways undertook Type 3 (intrusive) surveys of these
stores prior to refurbishment and rebranding as Primark stores.
Summary
Primark and Crossways have an excellent working relationship and Crossways
have been able to provide valuable expert advice, guidance and information
with regard to asbestos surveys and management and also with regard to any
possible problems which may arise.
Work is ongoing.
